The main objective of this study is to analyze the development and effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media integrated with the METATIPS learning model to improve conceptual understanding in elementary science education. This research adopts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method following the PRISMA protocol, which involves identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages. Literature was collected from national and international databases such as Google Scholar, SINTA, Springer, Elsevier, and Wiley, covering publications from 2020 to 2025. From an initial total of 1,033 studies, a final selection of 15 journals met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in depth. The findings reveal that the integration of AR in science learning significantly enhances students’ conceptual understanding, learning motivation, and metacognitive awareness. The METATIPS model, which emphasizes metacognition, exploration, learning strategies (tips), monitoring, and reflection, supports students in developing critical thinking and self-regulation during learning. The combination of AR technology and the METATIPS framework creates a student-centered and reflective learning experience, where AR acts as a visual exploration tool and METATIPS provides a strategic cognitive structure for managing the learning process. However, most studies still focus on implementation and evaluation, while conceptual research on curriculum integration of AR and METATIPS remains limited. Future studies are recommended to develop adaptive media designs and teacher training programs to optimize the pedagogical and technological synergy in elementary science education.
