Busana Fantasi Terinspirasi dari Busana Elf dalam Film The Lord Of The Rings

Abstract

This final project was developed based on an interest in the visual aesthetics of elf costumes portrayed in The Lord of the Rings, which are characterized by elegance, harmony, and a close association with nature. These visual characteristics were adopted as the primary source of inspiration for designing a fantasy fashion collection integrated with Balai Panjang Payakumbuh woven fabric as a representation of local cultural identity. The aim of this project is to design, produce, and present a collection of fantasy garments inspired by the costumes of elf characters featured in The Lord of the Rings. The creative process was conducted through three main stages: exploration, design development, and realization. The exploration stage involved visual observation of the film and a review of relevant literature concerning elf costumes, fantasy fashion, and the fundamental elements and principles of design. The design development stage comprised the preparation of a mood board, the creation of several design alternatives, the selection of the most appropriate concept, and the refinement of the chosen design. The realization stage included pattern drafting, fabric cutting, garment construction, and the application of decorative techniques, including embroidery, fabric appliqué, and beading. The outcome of this project consists of three fantasy fashion ensembles representing the categories of ready-to-wear, ready-to-wear deluxe, and haute couture, inspired by the characters Legolas, Arwen, and Galadriel. The designs emphasize refined silhouettes, soft pastel hues with natural tonal qualities, and the incorporation of Balai Panjang woven fabric to reinforce local identity while preserving the distinctive visual characteristics of elf costumes. Overall, this project demonstrates that the integration of fantasy aesthetics with traditional textile heritage can generate fashion works of aesthetic and creative significance while contributing to the preservation and contemporary development of local cultural identity through fashion design.

Abstrak

Proyek akhir ini dikembangkan berdasarkan ketertarikan pada estetika visual kostum elf yang digambarkan dalam The Lord of the Rings, yang dicirikan oleh keanggunan, harmoni, dan hubungan erat dengan alam. Karakteristik visual ini diadopsi sebagai sumber inspirasi utama untuk mendesain koleksi busana fantasi yang terintegrasi dengan kain tenun Balai Panjang Payakumbuh sebagai representasi identitas budaya lokal. Tujuan proyek ini adalah untuk mendesain, memproduksi, dan mempresentasikan koleksi pakaian fantasi yang terinspirasi oleh kostum karakter elf yang ditampilkan dalam The Lord of the Rings. Proses kreatif dilakukan melalui tiga tahap utama: eksplorasi, pengembangan desain, dan realisasi. Tahap eksplorasi melibatkan pengamatan visual film dan peninjauan literatur yang relevan mengenai kostum elf, busana fantasi, dan elemen serta prinsip dasar desain. Tahap pengembangan desain meliputi persiapan mood board, pembuatan beberapa alternatif desain, pemilihan konsep yang paling tepat, dan penyempurnaan desain yang dipilih. Tahap realisasi meliputi pembuatan pola, pemotongan kain, konstruksi pakaian, dan penerapan teknik dekoratif, termasuk bordir, aplikasi kain, dan manik-manik. Hasil dari proyek ini terdiri dari tiga ansambel mode fantasi yang mewakili kategori pakaian siap pakai, pakaian siap pakai mewah, dan haute couture, yang terinspirasi oleh karakter Legolas, Arwen, dan Galadriel. Desain-desain tersebut menekankan siluet yang anggun, warna pastel lembut dengan kualitas tonal alami, dan penggabungan kain tenun Balai Panjang untuk memperkuat identitas lokal sambil melestarikan karakteristik visual khas kostum elf. Secara keseluruhan, proyek ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi estetika fantasi dengan warisan tekstil tradisional dapat menghasilkan karya mode yang memiliki nilai estetika dan kreatif sekaligus berkontribusi pada pelestarian dan pengembangan kontemporer identitas budaya lokal melalui desain mode.
